The benefits of Vitalis Aged Care at Home

How Vitalis Aged Care at Home changes lives

Chronic respiratory disease patient Shirley has experienced first hand how having expert Vitalis nurses caring for her at home has made a positive difference to her life:

“I’ve had so many hospitalisations and I’ve spent a lot of days and hours lying on trolleys and having investigations and quite a significant time in hospital. The opportunity to be cared for at home could only happen through Vitalis.

“I don’t think I could have navigated the challenges of this year without the support of Vitalis. Obviously medical, but psychological and emotional, that sense of wellbeing that they’ve allowed me to have in what’s been a very challenging year. It’s been very, very important to me.”

On 1 November, 2025, the Australian Government’s Support at Home program replaced the old Home Care Packages Program and Short-Term Restorative Care Programme.

Government-funded Support at Home is available to eligible people over the age of 65 (or over 50 if you are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander origin or at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness). Vitalis Aged Care at Home can deliver these services to you.

Vitalis also provides private aged care/home care services.

If you would like help understanding these changes or would like to know how Vitalis can meet your aged care needs, please contact us.

Support at Home is the new name for government-funded Home Care services in Australia. On 1 November, 2025, the Australian Government’s Support at Home program replaced the Home Care Packages Program and Short-Term Restorative Care Programme.

The Government has said: “We are implementing the Support at Home program in response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. Support at Home will bring together current in-home aged care programs, ensuring a simpler and more equitable system for older people that helps them to stay at home for longer. Support at Home will ensure improved access to services, equipment and home modifications to help older people remain healthy, active and socially connected to their community.”

The Government has clearly identified the categories and services classified as Support at Home. Vitalis can provide direct support and/or guidance in all areas.

A key difference between Support at Home and the old Home Care Packages Program is that instead of four Home Care Package levels, there are now:

  • 8 ongoing Support at Home funding classifications
  • 3 short-term care pathways (Restorative Care Pathway, End-of-Life Pathway and 3 funding tiers for assistive technology and home modifications).

The Government has produced a Support at Home handbook with more information.
